PRESIDENT

Shawn Cowles serves as President of The Heart of High Springs, Inc., leading the organization’s mission to enrich the quality of life in High Springs through culture, economic growth, tourism, education, historic preservation, and revitalization.

An explorer and television personality, Shawn is known for his work on the Discovery Channel series Treasure Quest, where storytelling, history, and a sense of place were at the heart of the adventure. Locally, he co-owns Home Host Management, LLC with his wife, Adele—a High Springs–based vacation rental management company—and is passionate about responsible tourism and community-led projects that help residents, small businesses, and visitors experience what makes High Springs special.

VICE PRESIDENT

Michael Shields brings more than 28 years of experience in nonprofit leadership, community development, arts and cultural programming, and civic engagement. He currently serves as Program Coordinator for Leadership Monroe County and is the founder of Java Studios, a creative media and community development organization.

Michael has founded and led numerous cultural and educational organizations throughout Florida, including the Key West Film Society and Tropic Cinema, and has served on boards supporting the arts, historic preservation, libraries, education, and community development.

Now based in the High Springs area, Michael brings his extensive experience in organizational leadership, strategic planning, and community-building to the Heart of High Springs.

TREASURER

A resident of High Springs for over twenty-three years Ross has a degree in Theater Arts & Communications and has spent a career working in film and television production.  Over the last decade he has applied his experience to grow a local business and has recently retired.  Ross has been involved in the community, serving over 18 yeas on the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board and most recently as a City Commissioner.  He has volunteered with many local organizations, been a member of the Alachua County Tourist Development council and currently is appointed as the Small Cities representative member of the County Surtax Review Board.

SECRETARY

Kelly Potter is an entrepreneur, business owner, and community leader with nearly 30 years of experience in business development, real estate, construction, financial management, marketing, and organizational leadership. She is the owner of Prohibition Pizza in High Springs and has built and managed businesses and real estate ventures throughout her career.

Kelly also has an extensive history of volunteer and nonprofit leadership, serving in roles with professional associations, youth programs, and community organizations.

As Secretary of the Heart of High Springs, Kelly brings a practical, entrepreneurial approach and a strong belief in community involvement. She is passionate about helping High Springs grow while preserving the character and sense of community that make it special.
